Hey yall. I have a pond by my house with some bluegills. We would like to catch some more bluegills, and white or black crappie??, and some shellcracker to put in their to load it up with fish. Also gonna put 3 or 4 lms in it to eat excess fish. Does anybody know of any good places on the James island/johns island/West Ashley to catch some fish? What is the best way to catch them on a kids light outfit? What time of year do these fish spawn? I’m a saltwater guy but my little bro is hooked on freshwater, doesn’t like redfish anymore! could somebody post pics of a shellcracker, and crappie please? I don’t know exactly what they look like…

im no help with freshwater spots in that area, however a worm or cricket under a bobber is hard to beat for sunfish. probably a bit warm for much crappie action (could be wrong im not a native) but small jigs, rooster tails, beetle spins, small crankbaits, and minnows under a bobber have gotten me plenty of crappie in the past. at least back home bream spawn pretty much all late spring and summer and crappie more so around april.
Beetle spins will get them, alot of fun is a cheap 2 or 3 wt if you can find one … and a size 16 hook with some hackle around it, yes they make hooks that small
Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

Blue gills, redworms, nightcrawlers, crickets, Bett’s popping bugs, beetle spins. Pretty much anything they can get their mouth around. Caught my biggest blue gill on a whole nightcrawler. He was big.
Crappie, I catch them in the pond just be fore dark. Right when the sun goes behind the trees the crappie come out and the bass and sunfish disappear. I use a mister twister tail on a road runner jighead. Catch about 9 in 15 minutes just before dark on most days.
Shellcracker only like redworms, or nightcrawler sections. However I usually only use redworms. Put a small spinner blade just before the hook for shellcracker. Fish a little deeper than you do for gills. They like to hang back in a little deeper water.
