POOF GOES THE TOPIC ........................

So I guess I missed the highlights after my last post, just out of curiosity, who took it down? Inquiring minds want to know, pm me if ya like. Was there any good cheddar?

Funny though, make a legitimate topic, not using names or slander, a what would you do case scenario, and out with the tide she goes.

My guess is other inshore guides were like, I hope this poster Inshore guy doesn’t think he is speaking for all of us lowcountry guides, because lets face it Green Is Green, no matter who the paying customer is. Get it down and now !

For the record, I have owned a few businesses and sold a few in the past, a non returned phone call would be lost revenue in anyone’s book.

I thought you took it down… If you didn’t, then that means the site admins did… Censorship in a forum setting isn’t good… I think you were in the right to out the guy, its obvious he didnt care about his reputation… I for sure won’t use him or the other loudmouth that popped in to defend him…

I was wondering what happened to this also, I didn’t see anything out of line, unless I missed something?

I don’t like censorship either, but it’s their forum, their rules :sunglasses: Same advice from me as before. “Whispered words of wisdom, Let It Be”

The Beatles said that, not me:smiley: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0714IbwC3HA

The more you stir it, the worse it stinks:wink:

Heck I didn’t take it down, I went and served a few summons in Goose Creek, came back home for some lunch and 4 hrs later and it was gone.

Classic move on the others guy part, downing the locals, and using for example one Dufus who killed a Tarpon, and comparing this guy with most of the folks who fish the Lowcountry and post on here.

The way I see it is, if you moved from anywhere thats not on a saltwater coast, you have to start and learn someway and somehow, basically trial by error, or ask for suggestions like many do on this site, and honestly I don’t see anything wrong with that. It’s amazing this Inshore Charter poster is even in business, with that attitude and thought process on people who want to learn.

I respect CF on having this site, been a poster for many years, but I do feel admin or its staff do push the POOF button too quick on some topics.

BTW,I have met many a great folk on this site or given questions to there answers, and have taken many fishing, and show them the way I have learned all these years, from The Great Charter Captains I have worked for.

I think that the ‘defender’ did the other guides in Toler’s Cove a real disservice. Those guys need to have a talk with him about thinking about a post before hitting the ‘send’ button because like it or not, that group (of only 4 I believe) are not going to all be grouped together.

I can imagine that if some people on this site were looking for a guide or going to recommend one, the guides at Toler’s might be moved down the contact list.

“WOW” Taking it down didn’t change a thing. Or my thoughts!

Cane Pole, I wonder if the roles were reversed and some anonymous person was calling out your business on this site or some other site if you would feel the admin stepping in and removing the post was wrong? The problem with these types of postings is the fact that nobody knows who the poster is and there is no real identity involved to give legitimacy to the claim. Any user could say anything they want for any reason with no accountability. The only responsible way I know to handle these situations is to remove them. I let this thread go all the way until I saw you posted initials and a way for people to identify who you were talking about and then I removed it. I assume your situation may have been legit, but have no way of verifying nor do I have time to when this type of stuff arises. There have been times when I wanted to get on here and rip a business for lack of service or other issues, but I have to follow my own rules and do not post on here. If I let this kind of thing go for one I have to let it go for everybody and I would be opening somebody up to possible damage to business and reputation, possibly by a totally false claim. Some call what I did censorship, but it actually falls under editing. The local newspaper does not post every letter from every person they receive. They also have the ability to remove postings on their website. The same rules apply to a forum. I don’t want this site used to hurt anyone’s business especially local businesses. I was born and raised here and know that Charleston is still a small town at the heart and if you are not running a good business word of mouth will catch up with you and you will be out of business without anyone posting on a website. This post was made against a real identifiable person by a person that cannot be identified. It is easy to throw accusations and harsh words from behind the shield of anonymity and while your claim may have been legit the next one, by the next user, may not.

Na, that guy doing the defending of Jesus Christ as he seems to look at him, made up my mind. Won’t be Toler’s Cove guides if either is representative.

I would never allow myself to get into that situation, I would address the issue, with a positive result to keep that customer. Being a business partner at one time in a 1.8 millon dollar a year business, communication is vital. Simple text or phone call is all it takes.

Some of your admin, know who I am and know that I am real and legit.

I understand your position and respect that, but it’s pretty sad for that kind of business to take place and have no honor.

My Grandmother lived to 96, born in 1910. A smart woman but poor most of her life, she told me this when I was 10 years old. Son you can be dirt poor and believe me, we were growing up, but one thing you will always have in life,

Is being a man of your word and with a firm handshake given when conducting business with other folk.</font id=“Georgia”> This still should hold true today, but doesn’t for most.

It does to me. I’m building a $30,000 boat right now on a handshake alone

That being said, if this was my forum I would have made the same call as Mr. Pickett did on this topic. Some people may know you, most do not, but everyone now knows who you were referring to and they still don’t know who you are. Although you seem like a fine fellow to me

The topic started well, it was a valid question, you got good advice. Should have left it there:wink: I think personal business should be handled personally and not on the Internet.

I agree you would not find yourself in this position, but someone could easily come on here and say something that maligns your business just because they do not like you or you may not have met their unrealistic expectations. Should I allow this to stay until we know if it is true or not? You know as well as I do, even if you came on here and defended yourself, people will still remember the negative. That is my point. I do not know what is legit and what is not. Should I only allow people I know by name to post things of this nature and tell everyone else too bad? I agree with your grandmother by the way.

Apickett, by deleting the thread all together, it was censorship… Had you deleted the posts that used the initials and reminded everyone that they were not to identify the individual, that would have fallen under editing…

Boom.

Cracker, I need a new skiff for the fall. I’m good for it

In my humble opinion, good call Mr Pickett. As I have posted before, in marketing my TroutTricks, I cannot find an inshore fishing website on the east coast, or Gulf, that is even in the same universe as CF.com. If anyone knows of one, please pass it on. The number of people who have become successful fisherman, because of this website, is incredible. My guide service became an immediate success, largely because of this website. TroutTricks have become a household word, because of this website. Where else can you ask a fishing question and get the ■■■■■■■■ you get here?
Because of my wife, www.doggrell.com, tutoring me, I have used the computer for fishing info since the 90’s, when I started tournament bass fishing. www.bassfishinghomepage.com was the site then. Before the poker sites were shut down I spent a lot of time playing poker. I’ve seen a ton of major conflict on these chat areas. There is no place for that here.
Many times I read something on here that clicks and improves my fishing. You can learn from anyone. One time I was way back in an oxbow off the White R in Arkansas and I trolled up on an old black man sitting on a bucket, fishing. We talked for a while, and then he told me where an old sunk barge was right down the bank, in a creek mouth. I banged a crankbait off of it…bam, a bass every cast.
How about think how this site has improved your fishing, before you screw with the rules. Mr Pickett has evolved this site into an amazing vehicle. Please, let’s don’t break it.
Well, this has become a book. Bob

the site admin is correct on this one with some very sound reasoning…

when I grow up, I hope to be like Bob.

Easy - If I am half as smart as Cracker when I reach his age, I will be half smart. I just hope I am wise enough to recognize that I am only half smart... Probably not.
