Hey if you were fishing jetties with a popping cork and maybe a live shrimp looking to catch a spottail. how long would you make your leader? I know if you get off the rocks a little the water can get deep quick. that being said will a spottail come up in the water to find your shrimp on a 3 1/2" leader?
Yes you will get reds (trout and sheeps too) with a 3.5 foot leader, but it depends entirely on the location, the conditions, and what the fish feel like
doing. I suggest using an adjustable float and changing the depth until you find the bite. Use a slip float if you want go deeper, use a slip float so that you can still cast.

If you’re fishing a Popping cork, you want the leader between 18" and 24". The popping sound brings them up to look.
