Portable Depth finder

Does anyone have a good option for a depth finder for a kayak?

I mounted one on mine, just went with a basic lowrance unit, and gooped the transducer inside the hull. Seems to work pretty well, although I don’t use it much these days. I need to get a new battery set up, don’t like the AA setup i’ve been using.

BTW, what type of yak do you have? There are some side mount transducer options out there for certain boats.

Just got a Ocean Kayak. Mostly for the kids but I would like to use it for fishing as well. Just intereseted in which ones seem to work and not to bulky. Thanks

Here is what I did:

The biggest thing for me was finding a unit with a small diameter transducer plug. The first one that I bought had too big of a plug, so the hole was going to have to be cut too big to fit into the hull. The Eagle/Lowrance stuff was all very compact.

Depending on which model OK you have it may have scupper hole that is designed to fit a Hummingbird transducer. Hummingbird will swap out the transducer for the one designed to fit the scupper hole as they are owned by the same parent company.

thanks for the info

Does your model have a good image? How long will a full charge last? I have seen the Humminbird PiranhaMAX 150 Portable with a small recharge 12 volt battery at Dicks for $129.
