Does anyone have, or used in the past, a portable generator they use for overnight stays? Im looking at purchasing a Honda 2000 portable generator that can run the A/C and battery charger, while anchored away from the dock.
I have a Honda EU1000… love it. It runs a 5000 BTU A/C I had, it pulled 5 amps running and about 8 at start up. Just look at the amps req. for your A/C unit and go from there…Honda’s are quite…
I have a Honda 2000 and use it to power a 5000 btu AC also and it is more than adequate. Kinda wished I’d gotten a 1000 just because it’s smaller and lighter.
I purchased a Yamaha EF 2800 several years ago when we had a 32’ express cruiser. It would run the 12,000 Btu AC/Heat, battery charger, the 6-gallon water heater and the Norcold refrigerator at the same time. I suspect the Honda 2000 would have worked for just the A/C and battery charger and I know it would have been much quieter. If I were to do it again, I would go with the Honda 2000.
With an O/B powered boat you are much safer than with an I/O or Inboard when it comes to fuel vapors, but still make sure you have a CO detector on board for exhaust fumes, that you don’t run the generator in the cockpit, that you don’t store it in an enclosed compartment and that you secure to the boat where it won’t get dunked.
i have a newer honda 2000 generator. it is super quiet, fires right up.
a/c,s pull alot of juice.you need to do some research.you can’t go wrong with honda.you just need too know which one to get.i use mine to cool a camper that has a small window unit a/c. it does the job.
You can always rent one from a rental place and try it too see if it works for your needs before purchasing. If you don’t use it much, may want to rent anyway for use around the salt.
Honda 2000 is most popular amongst Rv owners, run many a 13000 btu AC’s with them. They have small gas tanks though and do go through a lot of fuel when running big AC, get a small 5000 A/c and you will be very happy
Fishing on the bottom is like having sex with the lights turned off. It feels good… but I wanna see it.
Lights On!
