Just ordered a few parts for a Penn 330GT2. Theses guys are great. Had parts in 2 days for $3.95 shipping. I think the parts were reasonable as well,so I got 2 .The reel didnt break. I lost the backlash knob somewhere in transit.
Way to go Penn another Happy customer
I agree. A lot of folks on this site have drank the Shimano flavored kool-aid. I have a couple Shimano spinning reels (Stradic and Saragosa which are $150-200 reels; not cheap!). I like the reels, but I’ve have more problems with those two reels than the 13+ Penn spinners that I’ve had. Not huge issues that put it them out of service completely; like line roller bearings that don’t last if not oiled every month, other line roller components, main shaft bearing, Anti-reverse parts, and clicker. I am very particular about maintenance too. I am not saying to not buy Shimano, but for my money I will continue to look at a Penn first especially the Slammer. I bought 2 Slammer 360s from Hoppy 2 years go after he put a couple thousand trout catches on them. I cleaned them up, spent 25 dollars each for new line roller bearing and a few lost washers and such and they are still working perfectly. My only gripe is the frame tends to get some corrosion spots on them, but has no effect on function.

Customer service will sell me faster than anything.I think the older you get the less you price shop(within reason). Penn makes a great product Im sure i have a dozen or more rods and reels. i love them all except for the Captiva. I understand Penn wanting to get into that market, but I think will hurt in the long run.Id love to have spent another few bucks instead and bought a REAL Penn. Oh well live and learn… Thanks for the post Nasty Dawg
jsadler,
I agree the craptiva was a joke of a spinning reel but guess what? We dropped the Captiva and Silverado this year because they do not deserve to have the Penn name on them. We have three new spinning reels coming out in September for 2011. We are launching the Pursuit which is replacing the Silverado, the Fierce which is replacing the Captiva and then the Battle which is a new bad ass reel for $100. We also have a inshore rod launching in September as well. You will be able to find all these at Haddrells point.

Currently using Penn Slammer 260’s for recreation and in the IFA events and have zero reason to switch.
I own Penn spinning reels that I have had for over 15 years that still get it done on every trip. I have 2 4400SS that I’ve owned for 10 years that honestly don’t look more that a couple of years old. I fish with them hard and often. I keep them clean and in top working condition 100% of the time. They have never given 1 single problem, ever. I have Mr. Blocker at Haddrell’s W.A. go over them every winter. I also have a couple of 4300SS I use for trout in the fall, a 5500SS, 2 6500SS and a 7500SS. All are made in the USA. I have a Shimano bait caster that I love that is about 3 years old and has been trouble free. Haddrells W.A. stocks a lot of Penn parts. I don’t knock what anyone chooses to fish with, but all my Penn reels have given excellent service for a long time.
