Possible SAFMC Appointment - Pro Catch Shares

We all know that Gov Haley made a mistake with Cupka. Well our new Gov in NC has an appointment to make too.

Please write him and make sure he does not appoint a pro catch share council member

"Governor McCrory will be appointing a replacement for Tom Burgess on the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council soon. I know two of the three people being considered. One is VERY pro catch share and the other is not. Kenny Fex has been on the SAFMC snapper/grouper AP for years. He is willing to consider different points of view and would be a good council member. Please consider contacting the Governor in support of appointing Kenny Fex or at least opposing the appointment of anyone who is a staunch supporter of catch shares. Please find out and PM me the contact info for the governor’s chief of staff or someone who is close to his COS.

Let me know the alternative candidates for the seat that are anti-catch shares, too.

The governor only recommends three candidates for a seat. The Secretary of Commerce (NOAA) picks one of the three. The governor, therefore, is not who is picking these people. He or she only submits a list. Your list of people has to be all folks who will represent you well and who are willing to do the necessary work to even be on the council.

If you know anyone high up in the NC DNR, please share that with me also.

If you can see where I’m going with those requests and want to go after it yourself, then great! What I would be doing with the info is calling certain people in NC and making recommendations on what they do.
