Fish had been schooling really good in the mid-lake area before Irma.
I have been out 3 times so far this week haven’t came across the first school.
Have not seen any debris around mid-lake !!!

Thanks for the report. I was wondering if it changed anything with the schooling. I’m hoping to ride around looking this evening or tomorrow evening.
What time of day were you out?

Schooling was good on Clarks Hill pre Irma too but Dad went yesterday and never saw a fish. There were also a lot of fish stacked on a 50 foot thermocline before the storm and now the thermocline is gone and the fish seem very spread out.
Looking at some of the data, I think we have entered what will be a prolonged period of PRE- turnover on Murray. The top and bottom temps are only 7-8 degrees apart. This could likely cause a less discernible thermocline. However, the d.o. numbers show there’s a long way to go. Something similar could be happening on the Hill.
The point is I think things will settle back down from the storm within the week, and both deep and school fishing will return to where it was before with the warm days expected. Turnover will complete sometime + or - a week of Halloween.

Good information Fog. This will be the first fall in years that I will be striper fishing a decent amount. I’m burned out on deer hunting, plus we sold our best property, and with the Keys and Everglades all messed up from Irma my fall tarpon trip is off. I normally don’t get back to striper fishing till after Thanksgiving so that was helpful. I was telling Spoon that I may go look for some schooling fish tomorrow and if I don’t find any and don’t mark anything good to jig over I may bass fish for a little while. Been a long time since I have done that too.
They were schooling really good this morning (0700) starting at the pier at the entrance to Ballentine Creek and headed off toward Goat Island. We locked on at 49 feet with lots of shallower water surrounding us fishing downrods and freelines. Everything worked at all depths. Nice to have a really good day on the water for a change. After 0930 couldn’t buy a bite.
Glad you had a good morning Mike! Tiger, I really enjoy looking at the numbers this time of year. Through doing so, along with both successful and less than stellar hook time, I’ve discovered some truths about how the fish behave and possibly why. The average person who doesn’t do what we do doesn’t realize how scientific fishing is. Sure. Guessing right and wrong can both play a role, but overall it’s understanding the water and the nature of the fish.
