yesterday, my son and I did some post season scouting. We found incredible buck activity within 100’ of a stand that we had abandoned. There were at least 100 trees rubbed bare. There was a huge scrape that was very wet and the smell of buck urine was strong.
I have owned this property for over 10 years and got myself into a rut. Will not let that happen again. We will be scouting other areas that we had been overlooking. If you have been doing the same as me, may I suggest you give your property a fresh eyes approach and maybe you will find a couple of honey holes. Only 8 months to go:smiley:
that’s why we hunt turkeys
I know, but turkeys do not get me anywhere near as charged as deer. If I shoot a turkey opening day I am done for the year. That will never happen during deer season. I really use turkey season to scout more for deer.

Good gracious! 100 trees rubbed bare!
Did some post season scouting yesterday. Seen a really nice Buck in this area the last couple of weeks of Deer season, but since I was limited out on Bucks for WMA I had to just watch him and his two buddies. Hung a camera where they came out, and scouted further back in the woods they were coming from. Found a choke point formed by water on two sides that funnel 4 heavily used trails into a 20 yard wide area leading to thick bedding cover. Picked out a tree to place a stand that should be an excellent spot for next season. Probably going to place another camera on the choke point next week…
We found several groups of 10-15 trees clumped together where they were rubbed clean. Our next step is to determine which way they are going in AM and PM. Pretty sure, but the cameras will confirm.
I have 2 other sections of my property that have also been overlooked the last couple of years. We will check them out during turkey season.

7 months Partnership!! SEVEN months, not eight!! haha, this sucks. Make it be August 15th already!
Keep the corn out for them, they really need it now. Not a lot of forage until late March or so.
If your into it, thin out some of your squirrels while scouting. Got till March 1st and 10 a day. Those little tree rats seem to eat as much corn as the deer do. A head shot with the .17 can be a good challenge. It’s amazing how just sitting still by a tree for 10 min will reveal just how many are around.
Good idea
