Went out to my boat on the lift this week to check on it since it’s been sitting for a few weeks.
The power pole would go down but not up. It’s currently stuck mid way down. I could hear a “click” when trying to put it up but nothing happened.
I checked one of the in line fuses that I think goes to it (was a 30A clip fuse). When I pulled the fuse out, I could not get it to go down or hear the click, so I assumed I had the correct fuse. Put that fuse back in and it again would go down but not up (I am only going like an inch at a time so it’s not fully stuck down!).
There seemed to be some corrosion in the inline fuse housing. But it is indeed getting power enough to lower the unit, so what should I do?
how do I raise it manually? I’ve heard about tying a rope to the ‘knuckle’ and pulling hard. I’ve seen a friend do this with no luck as they are firm as heck. Do I need to detach anything here to raise it?
is there a separate fuse for the “raise” function versus the “lower” function?
I haven’t ever had a power pole, but I’m guessing it is similar to power tilt and trim on a motor. It’s been a long time, but I have had one stuck down before and was able to manually lift it after opening up the plug on the hydrolic fluid resevoir…like you were bleeding brakes. You would need a way to support it once you got it up though.
If it is not causing issues with it down where it’s at now I would hold off on that though. I think it is safe to assume you are looking at the right fuse due to the fact that the click goes away when you remove the fuse and attempt to go “up” .
I would guess you have a bad “up” relay. First thing I would try is just short across the primary side of it (side that goes to switch) or measure across it with a DVM at that point and look for 12V. Then push the “up” switch and that should drop to 0v. If that looks right you should be able to do the same on the other (pump) side of the relay.
If the switch side looks good, but the pump side of the relay always measures 12V across it, even when you push the “up” button, your relay is bad.
Call the guys at Power Pole and let them help you diagnose it. They have helped me on several occasions and are super.
I had to replace the fittings on the hydraulic lines. Supposedly you can bleed the pressure off and raise the pole manually. I cant remember exactly how to do it, but I could never get this method to work.
There should be two wires coming out of the motor. Cut the wires and swap them. This will change the polarity of the voltage feeding the motor and it will run in reverse and pick up the Powepole.
will swap wires and try that method to raise it. Of course, it will need to be diagnosed unless I want to swap it out all of the time. Viagra crushed up and sprinkled on it didn’t work, unfortunately. I had to borrow some from Josh and Joe:) Battery fully charged so not that.
My power poles would not work saturday morning, it was cold but later in the day when it warmed up some they started to work. my guess is the fluid gets thick and the pump just can’t pump.
