Power Pole worth the $$$???

I’m new to the Charleston area/inshore fishing and currently looking to purchase a power pole for inshore fishing use.I’m just wondering if a power pole is worth spending $1,500-$2,000. I currently have a i-pilot trolling motor to troll banks and docks, but as far as fishing in creeks and what not, is it worth the money vs using my trolling motor’s anchoring system? Thanks alot.

Try one of the stick-it poles out of stainless or fiberglas before spending all the $‘s. My boat, used, came with a 6’ powerpole and while it is OK sometimes, our big 8’ tides make it useless in a lot of situations. I just purchased an 8’ fiberglas pole from coolwaterproducts.com and am going to see how well it does. It was about $63 shipped due to size. It will fit in my gunnel rod holder.

I have a stick it pole for shallow water and bought an ipilot trolling motor with the anchor lock feature for the same $ as a power pole.

Get a 10’ stick-it anchor pin and save your money. I use my ipilot almost everywhere I go unless its less than 6’ deep. Then I use the stick-it. Don’t waste your money on the 8’ model, go ahead and get the 10’.

Not sure if anything about fishing it is worth the money but our power pole sure makes things a lot easier for me and the husband.

Plus I don’t have to hear him carrying on about not being able to get anchor to hold and scaring off all the fish in the process.

I fish by myself a lot and I think it is a pain to get the anchor out each time and set it, try to get the mud off, get positioned right, not make too much noise etc. I can’t wait until I get enough money to buy one!

Don’t have a I-pilot, so I can’t help you there. I have twin 8’ Powerpoles and can honestly say they make fishing much easier and enjoyable. The Powerpoles allow me to position the boat so that all anglers have equal access to the honey hole.
Oh, and they have absolutely the best customer service hands down!!!

They are worth every penny. Anchor pins are not the same. If you can afford it, get one. You’ll never regret it. I like my remote control, variable speeds, and the extra control I have over my boat in tight creeks lined with oysters. The ability to fish with ease on windy days is also a huge plus. They have great customer service if it ever has an issue. I wouldn’t have a boat without one.

X2 on the convenience of a power pole…another cheaper option you may want to try first is a “cajun anchor”. Go to Home Depot and buy an 8’ grounding rod. They come in 2 diameters, get the larger one. It is galvanized and pointed at one end. Drill a hole in the other end and place a shackle through the hole, tie 20’ piece of line on to the shackle and wahla, you have a cajun anchor. Just spear it in the muddy bottom and it’ll hold ya. I even use on with the power pole to really lock me in position when I’m fishing between docks…

If your going to spend the money get the 10’ Power pole. Between the wind, tide, current, and soft mud bottoms, you will need the extra reach.
I cant afford PP’s or I would have 2. Currently I have shallow water anchor pins from a member Titan. They work great, but there are days that I push those poles 4ft into the mud and they still pull out. Has nothing to do with the poles and everything to do with the river/creek bottom and wind/tide/etc…
I dont see 1 PP working all that great. Your bow will still swing all over or you would still have to run the iPilot. Get 2 PP’s to hold you still. Use the iPilot to get you positioned.
Pushing a button to be anchored would be fantastic. It sucks when your alone and have to pull out 2 sticks, set the boat in spot, direction, get both poles anchored, and have the boat end up in the direction or spot you want. It’s a circus and it’s loud pulling 10ft poles from the gunwale rod holders.

I fish the rivers and have to deal with boat wakes all day. I try to get anchored facing away from the bank. This creates another problem. I’m sideways to the current. It takes alot of holding power to keep me still. Sometimes it takes multiple attempts to get anchored the way I want.

Best money I have ever spent…

10’ stick of 5/8 all thread rod, rod coupling of same size, eye bolt, and carribiner clip.

My boat had a 6’ PP on it when I purchased it. I use it almost every time I fish, unless trolling. Friday we used the PP to anchor the back and an anchor rod in the front. We anchored off the bank expecting the tide to drop and held the boat in position so all of us could fish the same area.

I cannot brag on the Power Pole staff enough. Like I said, mine came with the boat. I registered as the new owner when I boat the boat and the guys at JL Marine have treated me like the original owner. They have answered questions and walked me through minor problems. I have posted on here before, last year I lost the fiberglass rod on the highway and the guys at PP sent me a brand new rod at no cost.

If I had to do it over, I would get the 8’ for the areas I fish.

I just got 2 8ft sig series and they are worth every single penny. It is much more enjoyable fishing with them and definitely has improved my catching ratio.
