Power Trim Works By Itself

We have a 2006 Johnson 90 2-stroke. A few days ago after a hard rain, boat parked in driveway, the power trim trimmed the motor all the way up and the trim motor kept running. I had to turn the battery switch off to stop it. When I switched the battery back on it trimmed all the way down and the trim motor kept running. Does anyone out there have a clue as to what could be wrong? Relay possibly? Not sure what to try. Any help would be appreciated.

Switch at front of boat. Mine would do it after a rain. Afger replacing swith several times i ended up killing that part of circuit.

fish today work tomorrow

Move the rubber cover on the throttle trim button around. look for any pin holes or rips. Bet you got water in there causing a short. If not replaced soon, a relay will short out.

I had the same thing happen a few years ago with my previous boat with a 97 Johnson 150. It happened after driving back in a driving rainstorm. When I got back the motor was all the way up. The next day in the barn I was under the boat doing some work and the motor just raised by itself. It was apparently water getting into the switch. After drying out it never did it again.

I had that happen years ago. I had to replace the switch on the motor. While running in the ocean the motor would trim all the way up.

Thanks for the info folks. I have a feeling that it is the switch on the throttle control handle since it is the most exposed. You have to remove one side of the motor cover to get to the switch on the motor so I will try the switch on the throttle first. It did happen after a couple of days of rain when I had forgotten to switch off the battery. Fortunately, I was working in the yard when it decided to start working by itself.
