Powerpro vs Mono?

What does everyone think of Powerpro vs Mono for inshore fishing? Is the price on Amazon a good deal? https://amzn.to/2tVe5DQ

The amount of time it last far outweighs the initial cost. I have had some on a couple of reels for several years with no problems. I even have some an ultra light rig. Not planning on ever going back to mono. Just my 2 cents.

Never used PP but have been using Spiderwire for several years now and really like it. I actually just realized two of my reels have had the same braid on them from over 5 years ago. Mono and braid have their pros and cons but, I really prefer braid.

Power Pro is good stuff. You won’t hate it.

I’ve have powerpro that is probably 8 years old and I can still horse overslot reds out of docks. I keep everything indoors and rinse after each use.

I second this… I’m coming up on 4 maybe pushing 5 now but I flipped the line inside out about a year ago to extend the life as well!

Edited to say that in the winter in really clear water I add a flouro leader a few ft long to make myself feel better…

I personally don’t believe the “gain” is worth the extra money.

The biggest “advantage” of the slick is less friction through the guides which translates into longer casts. Plus, you get less of that typical braid sound going through the guides of the rod (less friction). That said, with the decreased diameter of braid (pound test diameter to breaking strength) you’re already getting gains in casting distance over mono or fluorocarbon.

I’m a fan of Sunline SX1 braid (switched from PP) but PowerPro is good stuff and, in my opinion, opened the door to what braided lines have become. I’ve heard some good things about some of the new Spider Wire too but I don’t have any experience with it.

When fishing topwater baits and when fishing stained/dirty water, I tie braid straight to my lure but when fishing clear water with subsurface baits, I use a fluorocarbon leader.

The Max Cuatro PP braid is solid. Cost is a little more, but very thin and good braid.

I have gone to 10lb braid for inshore. I like the yellow and the green.

Take a look at J Braid. Smaller line diameter than PP with the same test line weight.
