Prawns??

Went gigging on the Cooper last night and had a strange visitor in the lights. I thought it was an Asian prawn but after talking to DNR today it is a local species of prawn. I had never seen one in all the gigging trips.

And we caught a cooler of nice flatties as well. did not see any spottails though.

Dang, it looks like some sort of hybrid from crossing a craw fish, and a shrimp.

I caught a mantis shrimp in my cast net the other day. I had never seen one before and thought it was a bug that went nuclear. It was big too… a good 6-7" long with those big arms.

I’m assuming you didn’t pick him up with your hands. You just dump him out in the water? They can slice your hand open with one whack.

Had prawns and mantis shrimp for dinner last night in Italy. Mantis shrimp are seriously good eats.

Geeze that is a freakish looking critter to be coming from our waters!

I’ve caught mantis shrimp before, strangely in tide pools out at Pitt St. Definitely a dangerous animal.

Learn something every time I’m on here…sometimes it’s even worth keeping in the back of head

Saw photo yesterday at a deer hunt off a gigging trip night before last of a spiny lobster scooped up with a dip net about 10"

Speaking of strange things–I’ve been seeing a good bit of baby cudas while gigging the last couple trips…anyone else seeing them?
