I have 9 that my wife bought that are hooked and wired and ready to go.
Im thinking of trying to troll for kings with them. Do I just tie em up and go? I’ve never trolled for them before.

is it a soft bait?
yeah, when it thaws
its a real ballyhoo, wired and hooked, mouth wired shut too.
I wasn’t sure if you were talking of a plug or actual baits. You can try putting a skirt over their eyes to decorate them up and troll them slow. Before you put them in the water try moving the fish up and down and side to side in an “S” shape to get the stiffness of the freezer out of them. If you notice he is spinning on you in the water bring them back in and cut all but the tail fin off (will sometimes help) and the slower you troll’em the better. Big fat kings don’t like the chase the bait, but smaller fish don’t mind at all. I’m not an expert by any means but these are a few of the things I have picked up on… Where are you fishing out of.
Also the best advise would be to look at that rig and learn to do it. You can make the same and save a fortune.

thanks for the tips!
Planning on heading out of the jetties. How far in should i start?
So do the kings come up to the surface to hit it? I was thinking if slow trolling about 60-70’ back, its not gonna sink too much.
you could also cut out the back bone of the hoo stitch it back up and troll it slow and it will swim like a champ…
Solo,
How do you get the backbone out without distroying the fish?
go to http://www.baitmasters.com/nrigtips.asp and baitmasters have a little hoo rigging tutorial.
Would be better to break the backbone in sections, poop them and then rig up.
Slow troll over structure or areas known to hold kings about 3-4 knots in semi clear water and be sure the clickers are on and drag set light!
Good Luck!
From NC but will frequent Murrells Inlet several times a year!
