Ive made a couple quick trips to road side spots and boat ramps the last 3 days. All 3 days the fish have been biting. The sheeps have been biting well in the evenings on the rising tide and there’s been a strong toadfish bite and decent pufferfish bite accompanying them. I kept a red just under 17 1 day and a thick 14 1/2 sheeps the next. Those were the only keepers caught out of about 12 fish, 8 reds and 4 sheeps. I did pull the hook on several sheeps that felt bigger than the keeper.
A short carolina rig made with a pinch weight instead of swivel so i can easily adjust the length of leader it was pretty effective but also experimented with using a jig. I didnt have the best jig for sheepshead but even so i can see potential in using a jig for sheepshead instead of a carolina rig. Id put a smashed fiddler on and then barely hooked another so it stayed alive but had all the sent from the smashed crab. I got a lot quicker hits doing that over just a crab.
The marshes are thick with fiddlers, more fiddlers than in the last several years. Took about 2 minutes with the right tools and knowledge.
