Is it too early to offer opinions on the 2015 shrimp season? I don’t think the water temps got low enough to hurt them. My guess is a bumper crop of monsters!

We found them right at the end of the season last year. Good numbers and size. Unless there is some kind of shrimp kill, it should be a good year!

It’ll probably be like last year - right place, right time, only. The treads from last year seemed to have been either full coolers or very little. I didn’t have the right place or the right time last year. I ended up with an all time low of 24 quarts - total. And size was nothing to brag about, either.
Man I hope you guys will be wrong about the shrimps. I didn’t do that good fishing either.
You learn something every time you go. On a super high tide we found they will fight like heck to hold on-they will have red current legs. We moved in the same area to less current. We coolered out in a few hours. All of the shrimp had regular color legs. Moon, Stars, Mother and her nature will tell. Who knows? (All I want is flipper to find a new home in Florida.)

You did better than my buddy and I. He and I went to BB twice (we’re both shrimping rookies, these being our first 2 times out, ever) and we came home with a total of 3…not 3 coolers, 3 shrimp.
Granted, we picked pretty crappy days weatherwise, but hell, you’d have thought we’d at least luck into a few…

You can cooler out at the shrimp boat dock every time. No fun. Fishing & shrimping is all about the “game” you play. You develop a game plan, get all excited about the trip, and “win” a coolerfull - sometimes. I always learn something about the river and its’ critters, even when I “lose” and come home empty handed. The boatride, the sunset, and jabbering with other shrimpers always make the trip worthwhile.
Last year at this time I was still cleaning up limbs from the ice storm. This winter was much milder, giving me high hopes about this year’s shrimping/fishing season.

I predict that Bonzo will drink more beer than shrimp caught.
…make that twice as much beer drank as shrimp caught!

I intend to deep hole a lot more then last year. I bought shrimp a few times from the Ville and they were pricey. Really good quality though which makes up for the price.

If its like it was last year for us some trips it would only take 10-15 passes other nights would take a couple hours to cooler out. Size was ok but no monsters. Just had to deal with dolphins and other boats flying throughour poles which all had glow sticks on them. But was still a good season…between the three of us on boat all walked away with freezer full of shrimp.
Keep your lines tight and remember. Respect the fish and your fellow fisherman. Know the Code.
Wise man said the grub worms and down deep and the moles can’t dig them out so the shrimp will jump into the nets!!!
