Anyone have any insight on Engel or Yeti Coolers? Anyone recommend one over the other? Are they worth the $$($$$$$$$$)?
Not in my opinion there not. My 80 dollars igloo and 40 dollar coleman haold ice better than a friends yeti
I’ve looked them over too. They are built tough. I’m sure they would last for ages. I’ve got a couple Coleman Extremes and they do great on keeping ice. Claim is 5 days - maybe if inside. Outside in the boat and sun - about 3. Still pretty good. I have heard several people comment that the Yeti will not keep ice as long as they thought. 3 Extremes = 1 Yeti $$$ Depends on what you want and how deep your pocket is. Tough and last a long time or keep ice longer?

its all about durability. I stand on my yeti and pole from in in my jon boat. I am hard on coolers and the other brands just cant seem to hold up whether its the drain caps, hinges, snaps, handles, or the top giving in after standing on it all day, the other brands just aren’t as good. Is it worth spending an extra couple hundred dollars over a different brand cooler? if you have it, yes, if not then no. As far as ice retention goes, the yeti has held ice longer than any other cooler I have owned. the ice retention really relies on how often you open it and how full the cooler is. The fuller the cooler the less air space and everything stays cooler when opened more often. I have the 65 yeti tundra and my buddy has the 45. we both love them and would make the decision to buy them again.

I think it mostly depends on how long you need the ice to last. If just going out inshore for awhile you may not need the Yeti. Last summer I drove out to Montana and pulled my driftboat. I kept my igloo in the rear of the truck (with cap). I would put a bag or two of ice in it in the morning and it would be melted by that night. I since bought a Yeti 45 and think it will eventually pay for itself with savings on $2.00 a bag ice.

Engel and yeti are both excellent.
Key is to cool the cooler down first. If the cooler is outside in the sun all day when you put ice into it at night, the ice will be melted in the morn. Put the cooler in a walk in freezer with lid open for a day and put ice into it in 100 degree WX, and it will last a week in direct sunlight.
If you put one of the things into an AC’ed house or walk in cooler like I say after it’s been outside in the sun, you can literally shut the lid, and after about 30 minutes you won’t be able to get it open because of the vacuum. have to unscrew the drain plug to release the suction on the lid.

yeti is worth the cash, engels are nice but not in the bll park
I just bought a 58 quart Coleman Marine Extreme 6 day cooler on clearance from Coleman for $40.00. I realize it is not a Yeti or Engel but for the money it seems pretty well built.
fortunately for me I can’t pack enough beer and food (mostly beer)in my 150qt to last more than 2 days anyway so them high falutin’ coolers don’t matter much to me…but they sure are nice to look at and stand on…

I purchased the Engel 65 qt. last summer and I love it. I hate to admit I don’t like the latches as much as the Yeti but I paid almost a 1/3 less than the yeti so I can live with it.
I might not catch the biggest fish on the Cappattack but I guarantee I have the coldest beer in the blue water!!

Thank you everyone, I do appreciate the ■■■■■■■■. The durability may be the selling feature for me. My igloo marines have taken a beating and never seem to last more than 18 months.

i had an ICEY tech for a long time, probably about 6 years. then i finally vroke down and got a yeti. IMO i think its worth the money if you think your rought on coolers like i am. i use mine for everything from in the boat to four wheeler trips to tailgating etc. yeti coolers hold ice pretty good but there are tricks to make it last longer. Like Before you actually stock your cooler. put a sacrificial bag of ice in it for a little while to actually get the inside of it cold then add drinks food etc to it then stack it full of ice. Or if your gonna have it closed for a while Grab a chunk of dry ice and throw it in the bottom. One of the best thing about the yeti is the seal around the top and the hinges. Super high quality and will last forever.

The only problem with these coolers is u end watching after the cooler like it’s one of your own children. End up stressing over leaving it in the back of the truck, boat etc. If i loose,or if someone steels one of my coolers no sweat. If u loose an engel or yeti its a real punch in the gut.

Worth the money! I have a 90q Frigid Rigid and a 45q Yeti. Both are great, but the Frigid will hold ice longer. They are also good for keepin my Frogmore and Brunswick stews hot for hours on end.
