Pretty far out

I don’t know if anyone who reads here goes out this far, today I saw what looked like a MASSIVE weed line 20 nm from position N32 16 W77 51 on a heading of 190 to 200. Basically 20 nm SSW of that position. It is roughly 100 to 110 nm from the harbor. Happy hunting.

Bet you could make it with TidalRails!!!

63.5nm out as of today…updating on my waterproof sat smartphone…solar panels running the trolling motor…3 rod spread (L, R and WTF) plus a dredge…installed the tidalrails before we left the dock, awesome invention…fishing report later…

Look at those coordinates on Rutgers SST and you can see what is forming that weedline, looks like a lot of colder water pushed offshore pushing the warmer out offshore a bit. Scattered SST pics from today but if you go back a few days there was a well defined temp break right about at those coordinates.

Whats your flight altitude when your approaching the coast normally? Pretty cool being able to see the rips and weed lines from the air like that!

We were at 25,000 feet, headed almost due North when I spotted weeds. We had flown down south to about Jacksonville, and then turned back north. We were practicing areal refueling. The track we fly goes from Willmington down towards the Bahamas. Our point off Charleston (the actual coordinates I gave) is a point called “OLDEY.” We were behind the tanker, and I was sitting in the observer seat, and I remembered that Sellsfish would tell me about a Marine pilot that would tell him about weed lines he saw when flying. I don’t have the flexibility to move around in the sky like a fighter in training, we have assigned headings and such, but I try to look when conditions are good. Today was one of those days. Visibility was great. We could see the coast from about 50 miles out today, down through the haze. What I saw almost looked like a bunch of foam at first, but as we crossed it, the line was way too thick and too long (like 10 miles long and a couple miles wide) to be just foam, especially on a calm day like this. So I figured it had to be a weed line.

See, even though I work in the clouds, my head is still down on the water!!!

Did you see any dolphin under it?

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!

Huge schools of blue and yellow. So big that they were the MOST obvious things from 25,000 feet!!! If I were you, I’d get out there right now . . . . ya know, before they get away.:imp::smiley:

I deployed my TidalRails and got out there in 35mins. I was able to run at 85 knots and be perfectly safe.

I didn’t have the extra money for RailPals and all of my fishing gear blew out getting there.

Can you report again at the end of the month?

Very Cool!!! GREAT use of tax dollars!

Kelsea, it’s not that often I get to use that AR route from Wilmington. I have no idea when we’ll be using it. There are literally dozens of tracks we can use to practice this event. Weather, where the tankers are coming from, and so on dictate a lot of which tracks we use. Like I said, each time we use this one from Wilmington, I always look down as much as possible.

I like to think of it Sells, as a great by product of your tax dollars in use. I get training to remain current in areal refueling, you get observations when I can. LOL!!!

Sirecks, thanks for the response.
We hope to go deep at the end of the month,
like to find a Massive weed line while we are
out there.
So I guess a C17 for CF.com reports is out of
the question?

Aint no problem to make it out , its the empty tanks on the way back im worried about. Mabe if we took 2 boats, one to make it out and the other to make it in?

Hey Kelsea, yup, I’m land locked right now. No slipping the surly bonds this week for me, until Sunday. Even then, I don’t know where I’m going yet. The only time we use that track is to practice the areal refueling. The mission I’m on is not one of those, so there won’t be any reports. Sorry.

Does anyone know if that weed line is still out there and about how far?

Three-fourths of the Earth’s surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.
