Pretty good day on the Wando

Fished with a father son team today. We hit the water about 7:30, tide was falling fast, mullet were jumping everywhere, shrimp (decent sized) were few and far between. Eventually netted enough shrimp and got enough minnows in the trap to go fishing.

Paddled down fishing oysters, ledges and drop offs without any hook ups.
Hit a nice oyster bar just as the tide switched and proceeded to hook up with comforting regularity.

Most fish were in the slot, 3 over with biggest going 25" and change.

Hot bait was mud minnows fished dead drifted on the bottom. Lots of shrimp got eaten with very few hookups. Blues moved in in force as the water came up.

Fun day to get out before the rains came

Tommy, what does this mean? with a float but set with enough line for the mm to drag the bottom? Or without a float and with minimum/no weight to roll along the bottom with the current?

If my work week goes as planned, I’ll have time to be sitting in a kayak on Friday. I want to do better than this last Friday…

Nice day! Glad you were able to get on some fish.

Fish is a 4-letter word…

Small hook and minimal weight to let it moved with the tide. They didn’t sit for long between bites yesterday

Good day Tommy. Hey, what kind of PFD’s are those? I really need one more suitable for yaking and am not really sure what to look for. I like the looks of those.

Those are Stohlquist. One is the FisherMan, the other is the FlowTer

Thanks Tommy!

Thanks from me too. I figure you mean no float. I’ve been trying slow drag with carolina rig but must not be doing it right lately. I’ll try the dead drift method. Supposed to rain more this week. Think that’ll affect Friday’s fishing? (assuming I get some Friday fishing in)

The rain is making it tough. Muddy, low salinity, just not good conditions.

Since I switched to braid, I rarely have much more weight than a split shot or two.
