Price Gouging= Gas/EXXON

If there is laws against Price Gouging? How is it that an oil company EXXON can make over 40BILLION dollars in 1 year and that is not considered price gouging? I never hear of big companies making over 40billion a year? Is that not price gouging?

Free market capitalism at its best I guess. I have heard many of the same argument. You could have bought their stock. It is up 20% from just a year ago (full disclosure; I didn’t buy any!).
I honestly think these high oil and gas prices are gonna come back to roost with our American oil and refinery companies in the coming years. It will take a while for alternative energy sources to be fully implemented and actually make a difference. The technology is advancing, but right now the R&D costs are still baked in and makes it expensive. On the other hand should we open up the Alaskan oil fields to drilling (and other areas nationwide) then these same companies will continue to make money hand over fist, only now hopefully saving the consumer a few pennies at the pump.

Why do you think they are price gouging? Because they make a lot of money?

As an owner of 5 shares of XOM stock, I hope we double our profits next year.

As an owner of alot more than that, I thinks it’s fair. You guys should be buying through drips, especially the young ones.

Near as I can tell…the importers are making the same margin on sales…just more demand, more sales.
The real screwing is coming for our reluctance to develop an alternative fuel. The foreign oil kings have our whole country in a pickle. With all the special interest groups and basically no organization to change, it won’t happen. We should ship all of our jobs overseas…why work? Maybe we should all be on welfare.
The political pressure must be towards getting us off the second world’s hook.

When my father worked some 12 miles from our house in the 60’s, he and other workers carpooled. In the early 70’s, though gas was in the high $0.20’s, I took three friends to school and home every day. When I worked during the summer, we carpooled. And believe it or not, when we went to the movies downtown, we often took the bus. Not anymore though.

Today, me included, we use gas like its going out of style. We use 25% of the world’s gas though we are only about 5% of then world population, and we can’t understand why gas prices don’t fall as our demand continues to increase. And somehow this is all Exxon’s fault?
