Price of poker going up??

Hearing lots of talk from other area clubs about the changes coming from Westvaco and Plum Island properties. Apparently Westvaco properties were notified they can not run dogs after this year and some will not be able to this year(I am not a dog hunter). A lot of hunt club land is slated for development some is posted for sale. Mainly along the edisto. Plum Island is charging clubs for things like food plots, camping areas, and club houses. I understand these areas take away from timber growing but it just shows the direction this is going. I can see bidding wars for hunting land happening in the near future. There will be a glut of hunters wanting land as these areas close. It will be a rich mans sport before long. Enjoy it while you can.

Plum Creek

Right, sorry

I’ll enjoy it till I die.

All the land that PLUM CREEK purchased that was slated for development is still slated for it.

Curious, what direction do you think it is going? I have no doubt that Plum Creek has different ideas about dog hunting, but please pass on what you know about it.

I’ve heard about not dog hunting, but who do you know that is a club member on Westvaco property that was notified? I’ve seen no such notification only rumors.

On just a side note… dog hunting has never been a poor man’s sport. Dog’s take a lot of money to feed, house, tend to, and transport.

Edit… but poor men have been used to help in dog hunts.

Just to elaborate on the comments made by Hooligan, these are not rumors. I have two properties that I have leases on that use to be Westvaco property.

Everything he said is true. I know several clubs near the Edisto track that this has happened to. Unfortunately, we cannot stop progress. These areas will be under major development in the future.

It has been a bidding war for years now.

Ups, Have Ya’ll have been banded from dog hunting? I figured it was coming and have asked specifically about it, but no definite statement. I know a few that are still running dogs for coons on Plum Creek and they have not been told to stop.

When or if it happens there will be a lot of hunters that will have to look for new leases or pay the higher prices on Plum Creek land and switch to still hunting.

:question::question::question::question:

I’ve heard it was coming but not seen it yet. Just curious if someone has been told definitively and not through rumor.

Have you been told that it is fact that Plum Creek has stopped dog hunting? Again all I’ve heard is rumor and the people that would/should know tell me they don’t know what will happen for sure. I actually questioned a couple of guys from Seattle and the only thing the said for sure was no discharging firearms across or within fifty yards from the edge of any public road or lessor Restricted Road. If dog hunting is allowed that should keep the hunters away from the side of the road at least.

Westvaco had long ago already stopped dog hunting on a lot of tracts near a lot of housing. They went to still hunting only next to us 4-5 yrs ago down in Dorchester Cty. N Chas is moving north.

I’ve read a couple of the letters… Dog hunting on clubs east of Edisto River are pretty much done. A couple got notice that they can not dog hunt this upcoming season, they rest will enjoy their last season this year. West of the river are still okay (for the time being), bet you can get some good deer dogs fairly cheap. All the letters have been sent so if you belong to a club check with your president and or secretary if your club is effected, one of them has the letter.

“Computers allow you to make mistakes faster than any invention known to man; except for maybe Tequila and a pistol”… (author unknown)
“I happen to like all three”

Atco and papermakers were given notice, and one other east of edisto. Those are the three I know of.

Fred67, My two clubs are still hunting clubs. Approximately 6 to 7 years ago they use to dog hunt on them. It has taken several years to get the numbers back up on the deer count.

The letters that CSKIFF2326 spoke of are out there along with more letters to come. Plum Creek is currently putting together their numbers to send out new leases within the next month.

The main reason to shut down the dog hunting in this area at this time is for develpoment that is planned for the future. There is plans to build neighborhoods, stores, and even a new school.

Thanks Upsman. That was what I was looking for, someone that has had notification from Plum Creek.

I hate it for the responsible dog hunters, but it is Plum Creeks land to do as they please with. I hope the still hunters step up and keep the doe and scrub buck population down.
