Prime example of what not to do.

Was out by Morris Island on Saturday and heard an unusual sound in the distance. Told my wife,“That didn’t sound good”. I look out into the middle of the water in the area west of Cummings point and see a boat with people around it in ankle deep water. They hit the sandbar about an hour after high tide. Looks like they are gonna be there awhile.

that can be a sneaky sandbar for sure…

Easy to do in our waters. I’ll try and lend a hand unless they’re a total jackass. I can tell you from experience that you need a lot of beer if you end up like that!

When I rode by around 2pm I didn’t see anybody around the boat. Maybe somebody picked them up and fed them some beers.

Saturday, there was a nice cruiser around 30’ stuck on the big sandbar in the Stono near Sol Legare. He was about 50yds outside the channel. Its getting to be that time of year…

Years ago I was fishing the flats right there behind Fort Sumter. A dual console boat came ripping through there and hit that bar so hard a guy came rolling from the back between the consoles into the front of the boat. It was outgoing tide and they went about 75 yards into the mud. I checked to make sure they were all ok, but there was no way to get to them they just had to wait it out. Amazing how many people will run at speed in areas they are not familiar with. Many times they just assume if they stay in the middle all is well.

The only time I ever became grounded, it was at night and I needed Towboat to get me ungrounded. Once the Capt. got me floating again, I made some comment about being the biggest DA he’d seen in a while. He laughed and said, "no, that would be the guy I ungrounded 3 times yesterday. That made me feel a little better.
