Primer bulb ?

How long should bulb stay tight after priming? Not running, just sitting in garage. Mine only stays primed for a couple of hours. Do I have a small leak somewhere?

that’s normal. They aren’t made to hold pressure for days…just to prime the filter, carb bowl etc. to start the engine.

Thanks Capt Ed, just wondering since I just got mine back from shop. It was losing prime after sitting anchored or docked for 30 minutes or longer. Would run good for about a minute or so after starting then starve for fuel. Pump bubble and run fine until next time stopped. Took it in and they changed the fuel/water seperator filter and adjusted fuel/air mixture setting. Have not had chance to water test yet, therefor just wondering about length of time that bulb stays tight under garage.

It’s not normal to have to prime the bulb every time you stop while out for the day in your boat.

No if you are losing prime in 30 min that is not normal…start with replacing the primer bulb

Capt Ed is right on. I would go a step further and just replace the bulb and lines.

Your bulb and lines can become very porous which will really hamper the vacuum. You will not see any leaks. If the bulb is bad the lines are or will be very soon. Bulb and lines with cost you $25.
