I’m sure this has been asked but the search is not working. My wife wants to look for a private ramp with easy/close access to the ocean. How about a list of private ramps that can handle a 23 ft. Boat.
She hates the public ramp hassle(who doesn’t), but she is willing to pay to avoid it.
Any help please?

I have heard both good and bad about the Virginia Avenue Ramp. The bad is a bad drop-off that has broken an axel or two (from what I have heard) at the lower stages of the tide. Also, it’s expensive for what you get ($350/year). Big branch in the middle of the creek that you gotta watch out for.

When I had my 19 ft. I joined the one on virginia. It was in bad shape then, and there was a big drop off. But when I got the 23, I moved away from it.
Anyone been there recently, is it still the same. The dock was falling down 5 years ago.
I would pay $500 a year if it was a good ramp/dock setup.

Fisb8, does Buzzards Roost/ St Johns Yacht harbor actually let anyone use that ramp? When I was a kid it was pretty run down and they wouldn’t let anyone use it. It would be great if it was operational. I would pay to use it,it’s right around the corner from my house.
Rapchizzle should be able to answer about Buzzards Roost. Tex the ramp you are talking about with the tree in the creek was never a pay launch. That was next to it and actually went into the river. I haven’t heard of any repairs to the dock or ramp though.
There is a public ramp in that little park on Virginia ave,. but next to that is a private ramp. Like I said, I would pay $500 a year if they did some upgrades to the place.
Anyone here a member that can answer this?

The NCFC off Virginia Ave. is only $50/year and renews in Aug. There is a drop off that you have to worry about at low tide, but also the water gets into the parking lot during extremely high tides (for our area). Additionally, there is no “easy & good” way to secure your boat while you go get the trailer, so it is nice if someone can drive the boat while you get the trailer and then the current can be pretty strong there. The fixed dock is constantly being repaired it seems, but it sucks overall. Wish they would put a floating dock in there!
We finally gave up and bought an interior lot in a waterfront community with a dock and ramp.

Im out on johns island a lot and i dont think St. Johns has a ramp anymore. Ive been there a few times and havent seen one anymore. I could be wrong though
Why not join @ SI ramp and drive your vehicle there vs running your boat from N Chuck to reach the ocean?I would bet you could be @ the jetties faster that way.
