Pro xs vs vmax hpdi

I’m looking at getting either a 225 pro xs or a 200 hpdi vmax. Which ones better? Speed? Fuel economy? How many hours are they good for? The hpdi has around 450hrs and the pro xs has only 50hrs but is older and almost 2k more. Thanks. It will go on a flats boat.

I had an optimax for a little over 6 years. It was a pretty good motor and very good on gas. The motor can sense the viscosity of the oil you put in it. The better oil is more expensive, but you go through less of it compared to the chearer versions like Quick Silver. I have never been around the Yamaha HDPI’s. So, I don’t know. Either one of those motors on a flats boat will likely blow some water out of your eyes at WOT though (ha,ha).

lol …

I have had experiences with both. Pro and Con.
Year of manufacture will make a difference.
Which model year by brand are you looking at?

03 pro xs and an 08 vmax. But the xs has 50 hrs and the vmax has 480

I have owned a pair of Opti Max 225 and I liked them. However a motor that age with only 50 hours could be a concern. HPDI with 450 hours is not many. You might want to check thehulltruth.com

I would not want a 2003 promax with only 50 hours.

2004 and newer optis have new style injectors and are much better than the older ones

of the 2 I would get the HPDI
