Make sure your GPS/Chartplotter is working properly before leaving the dock. No Joke. A binary overflow on the GPS system has caused many units to miss operate, or not function at all. My Lowrance HDS gen2 touch was effected, and we had no GPS today.

The GPS Week Number Rollover 2019 occured on the night of April 6 to April 7 2019.[1] The United States Department of Homeland Security, Cyber Security Center and the International Civil Aviation Organization have issued a warning on this issue.[2][3]

At midnight (UTC), the GPS Week value changes from 2047 to 2048, and the Global Positioning System (GPS) system weekly counter overflows because it is stored in only ten bits, so the range is 0– 1023, the internal value thus changes to zero again.[2] This phenomenon happens every 1024 weeks (every 19.7 years). The previous rollover took place in 1999 when GPS Week 1024.[2] GPS is not only used for positioning, but also for accurate time. Time is used to accurately synchronize payment operations, broadcasters, and mobile operators.[2] Some older devices that use GPS could stop working or move back in time by 20 or 40 years.[2]
on The Lowrance website they have a list of their chartplotters that are effected. There is a place to sign up for notification if and when a software update is available to correct the problem for these units. I have read that Simrad has a similar list. I do not know about the others or if they are effected.
I’m also told that HDS units with pre 2016 software will still work, but will not have a time/date nor be able to show tide and current information.
Didn’t know where to put it. Felt it was a significant safety issue. As it is an offense, I won’t post again.

The only offense is attempting to stifle someone else’s right to say what they want. I appreciate you letting all of us know about the GPS issue on any and every forum. The moderators (like Skinny) do the censoring here.
I for one am glad jbhemm is posting this very valuable info on as many forums as he has … If not , alot of us would not have seen it and might have gotten in trouble , keep up the info jb , most all of us appreciate the help…
