so ive had a shimano sienna for almost 3 years and its finally giving me issues. basically the issue is that the drag will not tighten down at all… not very useful for fishing
i took the reel apart and cleaned out a lot of random sand and junk but no luck. all the parts appear to be there so im thinking its stripped perhaps? i dont want to replace the reel as it has earned some sentimental value
3 years out of a sienna seems pretty decent if you use it a lot, take it to haddrell’s they will get it rolling again. A shimano stradic is worth the extra coin if you can do it, had one for 8 years with no problems. Just replaced it with a newer version and love it!
Don’t get me wrong, I love my siennas! But if you can swing it get a symetre or Sahara. But I have the 2500 and 4000 sienna and like them. For their money it might just be better to get a new one…

im stubborn i guess. i just had to mess around with it a bit more. i got the drag to tighten now but its just not very tight… it almost feels like the spool itself isnt fitting correctly.
Will never own another symetre might as well jump up to a spheros, check your drag washers maybe they are worn out and need replacing.
Please elaborate on this as I own several of these and have never had a problem. I have one that I will retire soon, but it has seen at least seven years of use. I’m not a guide, but I fish a lot more than the average weekend warrior does.
The drag washers went after a year, has some wobble to it after 2 years, and the grip is locked up on it for some reason. It was the 3000 series and used it for catching everything from trout to 20lb tarpon. Never had any issues with the stradic. Trying the penn battle out now and has not impressed me yet, lots of wind knots.
