If you were looking for a moderate level project boat (mostly cosmetic work and re-power)in the 22-23’ range, what would you look for? My initial gut tells me to look for Grady’s, Hydra-Sports, Mako’s in the early to mid 90’s models. Thoughts? Leaning toward a cuddy, but not against the right CC. Use would be trolling, reef fishing and family time.
I’ve a got a 23’ Seacraft cuddy with a nice trailer. It had I/0 power that has been removed, except for stern bracket. Glass up the transom, get an Armstrong bracket and an outboard. Great riding, no soft spots, one hatch needs recoring, good fuel tank. Clean SC title, located at KC’s boat shop in Hollywood, $1600 firm.
PM sent.

first born, this is as good as it gets for under 2 grand if you want a cuddy single engine.
23-26 mako’s with cuddies need twins or they will wallow. Gradys with cuddies are even worse without enough power, as are the 20-25ft HSports.
Best ride and handling in the ocean ft per ft with a single is going to be a 23 sea craft or mako.
If mako, you want pre-1996. All depends on what layout and hull characteristics you want. Lot of variation between the mako hulls. PM me if you want specific info.
The sea craft above is one of the best riding hulls in that range you will ever find if it’s a sceptre model. Figure on new transom and fuel tank. Probably new deck also if you want to do it right.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the input so far. Knew it would not take long to get some good stuff here.
Seacraft are excellent, Mako and Aquasport also make good restorations. Given the choice of the 3 in comparable condition, I’d go with Seacraft.
I’d tend to stay away from older Grady’s and Hydro-sports

If you would be interested in a 78 Robalo 210 express cuddy with a 2000 Johnson 200hp, with a good bimini with panels, a cover, AND outriggers AND a downrigger on a galvanized trailer, PM me.
The more we just complain…the more things stay the same.
It hard to beat a seacraft sounds like a steal at that price.
I have a 25’ annacapri fo free, but it needs a lot of work. If that’s not to much for ya shoot me a pm and we can discuss it. Since I’m not gonna restore her, I would really like to find someone who will. Let me know.
I have a 74 Mako 23 that I wouldn’t trade for all the money in Charleston. I have made extensive changes including starting from the stringers up. I am powered by a 200 hp Merc and it is more than enough. I have followed Phin’s resotration and am anxious to see the finished product. You can’t beat an old Mako!!
