prop cleaning and prop washer questions

The manual is not specific about taking the locking tab washer off of the prop. I have pulled the tabs forward to clear the ridges, but it is not moving. Any suggestions?

Also, what is the best way to remove minor rust from the prop and are there chemicals that should be avoided on a Merc. prop? Would a Scotchbrite pad be too abrasive?

The best way to clean a prop is to run it.

bend the tabs toward the nut, then loosen the nut, the washer will follow the nut

Once the tabs are clear, it may just take a bit more muscle. Cover the prop with a towel to gain some leverage. I used a restorer wax last week to remove minor rust from my prop. it will buff it right out. the 3m restorer will work and you can use the rest on your hull.
