prop help

I spun my prop(hub) on Christmas morning, and had thought about getting a new hub pressed in. I think I’ve decided to get a new one instead. My dilemma is I can’t find any markings for pitch on my old prop. Btw, it’s a 1987 Mercury 50 Classic,45hp. on a 16’ Lund. I know the diameter is about 10 3/8". I tried the Mercury Prop finder site but it only goes back to 2000.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance, Bob

I know you are in the Columbia area, but if you make it to Charleston You can not beat Skips 7169 Cross County Road

If you don’t want a new hub pressed in, he may have one laying around to fit your needs… I’m sure he can look at your old hub and come up with what it is.

After that hit all the boat repair shops in your area and look and see what they may have in used… old stock props. You never know! May have just what you need with layers of dust on it waiting for you!

Thanks Fred. I’ve yet to call anywhere yet. Been busy with honey-do yard work all week. I’m not opposed to getting my old prop worked on, but if I can get a new one for a little more cash, I’ll go that route. Maybe have mine fixed as well & use it for a spare.

HOW FAST WOULD THE BOAT GO BEFORE THE HUB FAILURE?

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING

Chris, By my gps, it would top out about 25-27mph.

Coolbreeze, I think you’re talking about Custom Welding. I haven’t checked with them yet. I’m waiting for the holidays to pass, then start calling places.
