Has anyone tried different props other than the standard for the 4stroke Yammaha 25hp. Just wondering with the relatively low power of the 25hp if other props would make much difference in performance.
Every boat and set-up can be a little different. Install a tach, run the boat with a typical load, see what you can turn wide open. Compare that results to what the max rpm is for that year motor. If there is a difference, take that info to a prop shop for recommendations on how to achieve proper rpm’s.
Bring on the 2-3 chop!
I have a 15’ cat jon boat with a 25hp evinrude, total weight boat /motor etc. is about 400# it has a 13 pitch prop that ran good, jump up on a plane ran about 25-28mph I put a 15 pitch prop to see if I could get more top end…NOOO it turned into a dog, long time to plane and about 20 mph WOT. One prop size on a small motor makes a big differance. I would keep what you got if it runs good.
