Prop question

How tight should the nut on my prop be? As it is right now it’s loose enough to giggle and the cotter pin is the only thing keeping it from falling off. Also how do you know when it’s time to change the prop? Thanks.

What type of engine?

Happy boatin’ y’all!!

Prop should always be tight/firmly attached. If the pin has been under strain due to loose prop recently, you may wish to go ahead and change out now.

Definitly want it tight enough not to “jiggle”. Wouldn’t be a bad idea as SaltHunter mentioned, to change out cotter pin if it’s been under stress from loose prop. I’m sure there are exact tourque specs for your prop nut but would estimmate around 40-60ftlbs if using a tourque wrench.
