I have a new to me 2007 Seahunt Bx21 with a yamaha 115 4stroke. Does anyone run this set up? It has a 19K aluminum worn prop on it right now and at WOT trimmed up gets to 5200rpms. Have not checked the speed yet but its not terribly slow. I was thinking at WOT it should be turning a little more rpms. I am getting a new prop reguardless so I was thinking of stepping down in pitch. Am I correct in thinking this? Thanks for any help.
Yes. If you go down to say a 17p prop it will raise you rpm on the top end and also give you more acceleration.
1900 Tidewater Bay Max 115 Yamaha
Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120
Thanks for the help. I will try one out and see.
Prop selection is a crazy science! I’ve found you can get two of the same model and may find one to be better than the other! If you have someone that will let you borrow one or three go that route before buying. IMO…
“Why Bruce?”
Thanks. I will ask around and see what I can come up with.
Which model of Yamaha 115 four stroke do you have? I ask because I think the “standard” Yamaha four stroke 115 has a different (lower) RPM “max” than the SHO series. That said, I could be wrong and in that case should be completely ignored.
God bless the “ignore” function.
THERE IS NO WAY A F115 CAN SWING A 19 PITCH PROP ON A 21 BAY BOAT.
I DOUBT IF IT WILL BE ABLE TO TURN A 17 MORE THAN ABOUT 5600, AND THAT IS A 6000 RPM MOTOR.

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING
My 115 SHO is running a 13.125 x 19 (stock PowerTech) and it’ll turn 6300rpm.
That’s why I was asking if it was a “standard” 115 or a SHO.
God bless the “ignore” function.
The motor is a F115 TXR not the SHO. I will have to find a few different ones to try. Maybe I can find a 16 and a 17 next week so I can run it. With the tabs down it actually gets on plane fairly easily. I just want it to reach the correct rpms so I am not over working it any more than it has to be.
