I have a 99 model 25 hp 2stroke johnson that is leaking oil around the prop shaft. It looks like I need to remove 2 screws at the back of the bearing housing, and use 2 threaded holes to attach a gear puller. Has any one else done this job? Any advice you can offer would be helpful. Was hoping to find a video on youtube but no luck so far.
I have that same motor and have replaced the seal. I made a puller out of some long stainless steel bolts. I think the thread was 1/4 by 20. It was not difficult at all. I also had the help of a SELOC manual for that engine. You can get one at most boat dealers or from Amazon.com. Once I had the home made puller and the parts it only took about an hour.

Thanks for the info, am gonna get one of those manuals.
definitely get a service manual, and yes, you need a puller
Got housing out yesterday,Thrust bushing was seized on prop shaft and I had to cut it off with my grinder. Seals were a bear to get out of the housing too. Salt water motors are tough to work on. Got parts ordered so hope everything goes back together easier than it came apart.
put a thin coat of red locktite on the outside of the seals before you re-install.
if you have any minor imperfections in the aluminum housing, the Loctite will seal them
Top notch advice right there!
