Proposed Redfish Changes

If you fish the folly area how do you not see a trend down. Everything is trending down in the folly. I’ve fished the same areas for over 10 years from inlet to inlet. The schools on the flats all over folly are not there or way smaller than they used to be. I would blame dolphins far more than sharks. The dolphins demolish reds. In the winter its one of their major sources of food and easy pickens because they aren’t affected by the cold the same. Its also proven they have learned behaviors that they memorize. I got several spots where the dolphins have fished timed out. We can’t do anything about sharks or dolphins, we can do something about regs and poachers. The regs are the easiest and cheapest solution. Some of these poachers are so cocky they think they are untouchable.

I just don’t see the need for more restrictive regulations. I’ve caught fish every year almost every time I go and I don’t see a trend down in Red Drum. What I do see is more boats! I see more people on the water but not too many catching fish. Sharks… definitely up; many more over the years. Has anyone considered predator fish in relation to the Red Drum variations? I agree that we need more work on the stats. But I also am very tired of DNR, SAFMC and CCA making work for themselves at my expense and having to spend my time writing people and making phone calls to make sure there is a fair government in place. A bag limit of 5 with a bigger slot is not going to impact Red Drum if DNR would spend the time checking and fining offenders. What we need is more DNR LEO’s out on the water and landings. And, I eat EVERY FISH I keep myself. Unfortunately I run out often.

This opinion does not match up with ANY of the best fishermen in your area. If you have spent much time at all on the flats there, then you can easily do very accurate head counts each year. Is this Toppy Blue?

So let’s do a lottery for a few dolphin… Do they eat good? I’d have to keep it secret from my Daughters and Wife, they’d kill me if they thought I was going to eat a Dolphin. Knew a fellow that said Dolphin was the Pork of the sea.

Finally got you to bite. Persistence my friend.

What’s your take on the flats Juveniles schools decline?

That wasn’t a bite. For someone that kills so many fish you should know the difference.

I’d have denied it too.

If you are referring to me Killing fish, I don’t think I Kill many. In 2017 6 Dolphin, 12ish BSB, 4 Sheephead, 1 Wahoo, 2 grouper, 3 Black tips, 8 Spot tail, 3 black drum, 20ish whiting, 10 ish trout, 4 dogfish, 2 Flounder, 1 hammerhead, 1 sword, and a couple of big pin fish that I took home scaled and pan fried whole.

That’s a pretty fair average over the last 20 years and what I’ve taken home to eat. Add in a couple of years that I had many more Dolphin and a stellar year on Flounder in some duck ponds.

Why yes you are. I told you sharks get trained to locations that the Big Breeders are getting caught in.

I’m flattered you have pictures of me saved on your computer.

Don’t’ flatter yourself too much, Not on my computer… That was sent to me. I’d imagine you can search it also. But what would I know, according to you I suck at this computer stuff.:smiley:

That’s weird someone would send you that and not just post it themselves. I’ve had all kinds of fish eaten boatside and some have been in shallow water. A big spinner shark eating a trout as you go to land it in a creek will get your heart rate up.

Not so weird as you would think.

So you have had all manner of fish eaten boat side? And you call me a murder? That is weird.

Just think how many more juvenile Spot tail could be on our flats if you would not have purposely targeted breeder fish. That again is weird for someone that claims to be a “true” conservationist.

I think this is the most amount of pages on c.f. that I’ve seen that wasn’t full of back n forth bs but here it is. Out of every fishing forum ive used this is by far the worst for it. A lot worst stuff goes unpictured.

Just think how many more fish would be out there if you worried about yourself and the amount of fish you kill year after year. See how speculation works?

Good morning Fritz! Hope you had a good nights sleep! I quit for now, don’t want to pizz off 40inchred with our back and forth b.s. I thought we were making progress? Even though as you say much is a lot of speculation. I can not argue with that. But I believe we both have some good speculation.

And you have a point, I’m quitting fishing for ever. or until I c

Come on man, rub some sandpaper across your hide and thicken it up a bit! Go out and get us some pics of what this cold has done to our inshore fish, it’s too cold for me.

On the contrary, it’s what makes this forum unique.
Take it for what it is, a difference of opinion.

Ya know, it must be nice living in Neverneverland. Remind me to come visit you, when I need a break from reality.

My boats froze and I got a pull start. It took me 75 to 100 kicks to get the ole mud slinger kx250 started so I could ride in the snow for the first time. I was spinning wheels and fish tailing every time I got on the gas. I’m worried I might pop my pull start if I have to pull it that many times. My butt was cold last time I went yaking because my seat is low and paddle drips fill it up after a few miles. Its a solid 15 degrees colder air and water and I’m not about to go wading or yaking in that. My waders are for 45 and above waders. I plan to go tomorrow or I if I get real bored and can get the ice out my boat I might go today. I’ve been chipping at it and it had a few inches of ice then water and then a few inches more of ice.
