Prosports Prokats whats the story?

I am looking hard at a 2001 28’ Prokat boat with twin 150 yams. Has any body been on this boat and can give me some feed back on it?

I had a lot of dealings with the Prosports factory and customers with this boat except with the diesel sterndrives. All the customers I spoke with had very good things to say about the ride. However, there are a lot of things that Prosport cut corners with. For example, the bilge pump overboards were plumbed at or below the water line without a loop installed with is a major sinking risk. Wiring and rigging in general was a mess as well. Also, twin 150’s I think is a little underpowered for that boat. The diesels I dealt with in many of these were rated at 120 hp. The boat never really planed out correctly until almost WOT. Of course the 150 outboards will be a little faster, but part throttle operation may not be very good given the superior torque of the diesel compared to the outboard. Most of the outboard powered boats I was familiar with had twin 200’s and performed well.

I would recommend seatrailing and crawling around the boat looking for the wiring, rigging and plumbing issues before pulling the trigger. Having the boat surveyed would be good as well.
