Protecting your phone

How do you guys protect your phone when your on the water?

I ordered a waterproof case for my iphone. Good to 10 meters, can also take underwater pictures. But I wont be trying that.

BOB

Otter box and Pelican case… I pretty much keep my phone in the Pelican case for most of the trip, but if I want to take a picture or something, pull it out and the Otter box is supposed to protect it from spray\mist, etc.

Ziploc sandwich bag with a folded up paper towel in it. I can use it while it’s in the bag, but I take it out for pictures.

Lifeproof has a waterproof case but only for a few phones & they are high. I use one of those waterprrof boxed from Walmart that are back in the camping area. I think they come in a translucent blue, red, & I think yellow. Around $10 for teh bigger one.

Am I the only one who uses a ziploc bag?

Not for long. That’s good ol’ Marine ingenuity right there…:sunglasses:

I tried the bags, put it in two going down the creek in a leaky canoe. By the end of the trip the phone was wet. End of phone, bag okay for a little spray but did not work so well submerged in water.

buy a water resistant phone. I like the sony xpheria I have.

I have a Seidio waterproof case. Cheaper than Lifeproof, and the screen doesn’t look all water marked and wet. Took it on a canoe trip this past weekend and fell/jumped in with the phone in my pocket. Still bone dry.

REI has “dry bags” just for phones. It has a lanyard to hang around your neck and you can work it while it is in the bag.

Lifeproof and the lifejacket for it. Waterproof phone case in a Croc so it won’t sink when I drop it overboard.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Yeah, that ships already sailed.. To saltydog, pelican cases float. No need for a shoe float

I use the Lifeproof case which I keep in my boat bag and put the phone in it before I launch the boat. But instead of keeping it in my pocket I use this mount and keep it on my dash.

It’s a Ram mount, they make a variety to fit most all equipment.
http://www.rammount.com/ The suction mount is extremely strong.
BTW, the case in the photo is not the Lifeproof, I just stuck my phone in the mount for a quick photo

The “Dry Pak” from West Marine is great -water tight, floats, and you can use the phone when enclosed inside. Word of caution on any clear sealed bag-type: they heat up like a greenhouse if left in the sun. I’ve had iPhones show the temperature warning which causes them to lock up until they cool down. I assume other phones do something similar.
