Proud Papa

After getting skunked yesterday I planned on working around the house and watching football. My wife informed me this morning that our daughter was having a play date and she was kicking the boys out of the house. She suggested that we go fishing! Well twist my arm:smiley: So we loaded up the boat and away we went. On the way to the ramp I warned my son we may not catch any fish. He melted my heart by saying it doesnt matter if we catch anything as long as we are together! We finally made it to the Wando and to say it was choppy was putting it mildly. We messed around on a few flats but couldnt even see the bottom in a foot of water. I tried to find the schools I have been hitting lately to no avail. The fun part was watching my son fling around the spinning reel. He is really impressive, and going to show me a thing or two one day. We realized it was pointless to stay out there so we started heading back to the hill. When we got to our creek he told me we should fish our favorite dock. We had plenty of time so I said why not. I wasnt expecting much but after about 30 seconds the rod doubles over and he lands a nice 24" redfish. I have him hold the other rod, while I baited the other one, and I hear him yell help and the drag start screaming! I thought both he and the fishing rod were hitting the water. He muscled in a nice 27" redfish. We put a hurtin’ on those fish for about an hour and then the bugs took over. They were eating us alive and we both decided it was time to head home. It was an awesome day on the water and I couldnt have asked for more. I did tell my wife thanks for kicking us out, and that she should have playdates every weekend! Here is my favorite pic of the day.

It DOESN’T get any better than that. Thanks for sharing this special day with us. As a parent and grandparent, it touched my heart strings.Yep, you have a fishing buddy for life!

Any chance I can borrow him to go fishing? He obviously has better insight than I do. Great job!

Best post I’ve read in a while. Thanks for sharing.

I relish all those pics of my 2 when they were that age. All of a sudden, I woke up with 2 teenagers that know MORE than I do about EVERYTHING. Enjoy those times now as you can never get them back. There is something super special about a youngster’s enthusiasm for new things in the outdoors. Good on ya for including him in your available leisure time. I wish more parents would follow suit.

So I guess we can say that he out-fished you eh? Nice work!

Thanks for all the comments! I definitely have a fishing partner for life. He reminds me alot of myself. The boy couldnt even take a nap yesterday bcause he was so excited to go fishing. The first thing he asked me after school today was if we were going fishing again! I am glad he went too because I would have been skunked two days in a row without his intuition! Thanks again and I hope to post many more of our trips.
