PSA on SAFMC Closures

Blueline or Gray tiles areclosedd through May 1.

Snowy Grouper close Monday until Jan 1 2016.

The last SAFMC newsletter I received mentioned splitting the gag out of the shallow water complex so it can be managed separately, outside the current shallow water grouper season as quotas are met. I don’t understand the nuances of this but I take it to mean they will be shutting down gag fishing for the year as soon as the “public comment” period is over.

I have the news letter - That’s the way I read it. This thing about snowys and BL tile has no basis in fact. Anyone can look at a chart and tell that there’s a whole lot more deep water out there than shallow. I have caught snowy’s from 300’ to 700’ I would think they go deeper than 700’ but that’s tough to fish. How can the SAFMC give us a stock assessment on a fish that covers so much deep territory? they cant. Its smoke, mirrors, and guesses.

There are charters in South Florida and the Keys that are running deep drop charters every single day of the year. Follow Bud n Mary’s and the Stanzyk fellas on social media. They smoke the recreational quota for NC, SC, GA, and FL. Moronic to manage our waters the same as you would manage the waters off the Keys.

Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.

Snowy Grouper are a common catch in 600-900’ in the Keys. Bigguns too…

We do fish a lot smaller area for them than those fishing for them up north do.

We fish a smaller area because of the long azz run. Also consider we have 2 MPA’s off of our coast now. We are lumped in with the Florida degenerates. Yes I said that. I have talked to too many that are a part of this problem. Over generalization perhaps, but I have a lot of anecdotal evidence.

The infuriating thing about this is that we can catch Gags 15 miles outa MI in the fall.
