Public ramp on old Navy Base

What ever happened to the plan for a public ramp on the old Navy base?

I seem to remember the tug boat captains complaining about it and then it fell off the radar.

There is a commercial terminal on Shipyard Creek that objected to it. Said it would create a hazard.

And that was it? it then just got dropped

That sucks

All of these boats, not too many places to launch them. I don’t know of one new public boat landing in the area in the last 20+ years. Really sad since we all pay taxes on our boats, motors and fishing licenses for the few times we get to use them. And if I go to a public landing on the summer weekends, I could easily be convinced to sell my boat and just mow my lawn.

I agree with you 100%, but if Charleston County built a new boat landing, there would be all kinds of people howling about “I can’t believe they’re spending my tax dollars on a boat ramp! There’s plenty of boat ramps around here.”

But if they used the boating communities tax money from the boat and motor, then it would be the user that pay for it.

He11, If I thought my money would goto the building of new ramps I would gladly pay more.

get them to build a new ramp and charge a fee
IOP marina doesn’t ever seem to be empty on the weekends

Agreed, the boat launches are always so packed full. I wouldn’t mind paying a few dollars to launch somewhere convenient, esp. since a well placed boat ramp will save a few $$ in hauling gas and in boating gas.

Lol, there is no amount of boat ramp hell that would possess me to mow my lawn instead. That’s one activity that I’ll never understand why folks enjoy it :face_with_head_bandage:, but I suppose, to each his own. I’d almost rather salt the yard down real good each spring and be done with it for the season.

Moral judgment under girds the entire structure of laws and is necessary for the rational structure of any significant statute. The idea that our laws can stand independent of moral foundation is senseless.----- Albert Mohler.

This is a great idea. Several communities around here have private ramps. They could charge…

Or maybe allow the residents to sell their access to the ramp. Anyone ???

What about the area on the pennisula next to Drum Island. Looks like an old dredging area. Make part of that a boat ramp.

Would be a great area to allow close access to the harbor.
