i’ve been thinking of buying a friends wilderness systems “pungo” off of him. has anyone had any experience fishing with one of these?
I had 2 pungos loaned to me 2 years ago.I live on a large pond and fish daily. And have used them on overnight river trips.I like the large cock pit and the hull is fast. Storage just does not work out.The pungo is about 12 feet long.
I much prefer the percetion swifty I now own. It is only 9 feet long but is rated for 375 lbs very stable has a very comfortable adjustable seat. It loads up perfectly for an over night, or a long day trip.An Igloo 12pk cooler fits in perfectly under the front deck between your legs, a tent goes along one side of the seat, a folding camp chair along the other side. The seat back folds down and a large dry bag, water and other stuff fits in easily. On the rear deck I can put another soft sided cooler under the bungee cords. On the front deck I use duct tape to temporarily mount a drink holder with a compartment for suntan lotion, ect… This yacht is less than $350.00 new. It also fits in the back of my suburban or a 8 ft bed pick up.
For pure fishing I think the sit on tops are the best. The swifty and pungo are about equal for fishing. I like the swifty seat better for fishing but the pungo does have a seat accessory upgrade that is better than the swifty for about $60.00. Your friends boat may have it.

I have a pungo that I fish out of here in the rivers of Virginia. I think it is an excellent platform for fishing. I have the new one with the phase 3 seating that is just real hard to beat for comfort. I think it tracks better than most boats in this class, which is a big concern for the majority of fishing I do. It is extremely stable. It doesn’t turn on a dime, but I think your giving that up for the tracking. I have paddled some class III rapids in it too, but a spray skirt (or one of their “mini-skirts”) is needed for that stuff since the cock pit is so big. I plan to bring it down Kiawah next week to try it in the saltwater. If you can get a deal on a used one I would not hesitate to buy it.
