Planning a trip to Punta Cana in February of 2017 and would love to fish a few days while we are there. Exact dates are the 20-25th. Anyone have any recommendations on charters? Or other “must” see attractions while we are there. Thanks in advance.

If kids are involved, there’s a pirate adventure that has you sail on a pirate ship. There’s some swordfights to and from dinner. The boat takes you to a floating restaurant where you eat lobster/steak/chicken. Drinks are included. After dinner, the show starts on the restaurant. There some neat pyrotechnics and lasers. The fights are on a storyline and there’s a theme kids can understand. It was entertaining and a very nice trip.
We’ve been twice to Punta Cana.
We also did a riverboat tour that was nice. I think that was part of a town sightseeing excursion. The riverboat was a meal and drinks.
The cave tour was fun; though I think that was part of the town tour.
Horseback on the beach at a private part of the island was okay; we also had a great meal on that one.
Never fished there, but I seriously considered it once, but I got hit with a nasty virus that kept me in bed/bathroom for about 30 hours. Got drugs from a pharmacy in the big mall.

"Kiss my ass, I bought a boat; I’m goin’ out to sea." (Jimmy Buffett covering Lovett)
Take a light spinning outfit with you and some basic tackle. I bought a collapsible travel rod online for less $50 and always take it with me when headed to any of the islands. Our resort in Punta had catamaran style paddle boats. We paddled it about a mile of the beach and fished a big ledge using shrimp from the dinner buffet and caught grouper and snapper. The resort workers were not too happy with us being that far off the beach originally but when they saw we knew what we were doing and we gave them all the fish we caught they were super cool. Paddle boat offers a good trolling speed for hard plastics and spoons aw well. Never chartered while we were there even though there were several boats there at the time from the east coast. Beware the Dominican is one of the poorest of the islands and I personally was pretty nervous about being off the resort grounds without a guide with me, much more than Barbados or Jamica.
