I’m trying to find a push pole holder that will work on a rolled edge boat, preferably a removable one. All the one’s I’ve seen are for liner boats or for boats with wider gunnels. Saw a guy on Shallow Water Angler this weekend with a Carolina Skiff that had a holder that looked like an oarlock, looks like it could work. ANy ideas?

I have a J16 skiff. I made one out of wood. Has a 1/2 treated plywood base - rounded on outside. Secured with two 1/4" ss bolts. Has two small blocks of wood screwed and glued to it forming a slot. I put a window latch on inside block. Lay the pole in slots and swing latch closed - pinches it down in place. It’s in line over the rub rail out of the way. Good while fishing but, I strap it when on the trailer - wants to vibrate back.
Oar locks sounds good if over the rolled edge and not inside in the way.

Superior hardware has clips that bend open when something like a broom is pushed into it.They have several different types some padded, check that out.

I’ve got a jon boat with the rolled edge like you are talking about. I ordered my push pole holders from a company called PoleCat. They sell push poles and push pole accessories.
Their jon boat push pole holders work great, and are inexpensive. Not removeable though, unless you just want to unscrew them.

Just an idea. I’m not sure how much a push pole actually weighs. But maybe a couple of strips of heavy duty velcro attached to the side of the boat, and a few placed on the pole itself. I do know from experience that the heavy duty stuff holds pretty well, we use to hold down the hose bed covers on the firetrucks. And you can get the velcro kits for under 10 bucks, at the wallyworld.
Just a thought tho.
Settin here at work bored out of my mind
I’m with Flyreds. I have a Polar 1886 and bought a polecat pole and holders. The holders can be removed with a screwdriver, but I wouldn’t want to often. The pole is carbon fiber and was about 1/2 price of a Stiffy. Also have a holder on the platform that is real handy when fishing alone.
Flyreds, BFT redman… Do you guys know if any push pole will work with the polecat push pole holders? I have a 1542 War Eagle and have been looking around at different push pole holders.

I’m glad FireMedic124 is bored at work, sounds like a good thing if he’s not busy!

Hey BFT Redman, didn’t know there was another Polar (old skiff style) owner here. Having a rolled gunwale makes some applications a challenge.
yea i had to add extra support for rod holders even bent the washers to fit under the curl for the original holder base! fabbed the ss bar myself…prolly just have to do your own field mods to costom fit your boat as well…

now those jokers dont budge! might help you out
