I am buying a push pole for my new boat I was wondering if anyone knows a trick to rigging the platform so I don’t have to spend an extra 50 bucks on a push pole caddy? Thanks
not being a smart azz, but I use a rope. bout 4 ft long.
I did the rope trick for a while also. Then, during a brief interval of being flush, I bought a Tibor push pole caddy. It works like a charm and I highly recommend it. I’m sure there are less expensive ones out there, but you get what you pay for.

I was thinking about using a rope at least at first till after i swallow the $ 300 cost of a 20 foot poll. Thanks, did you tie some sorta slip knot on the end so you could keep the pole from pulling through or just leave it hanging in the loop?
If it swims throw a fly at it!
I’ve got a mount that fits in the side of my platform. I think It’s called a tower mate.

Yep. for staking out, just slip knot around the pole, then to the tower.
I have a pole caddy gizmo for setting the pole down when I fish from the platform but when I stake out I use a nylon strap with velcro.
mountain guy, i’d recommend spending the $50 and get one of those caddys. (i guess thats what the c-shaped cradle is called). i use that a lot more than i thought i ever would. I’d say probably 20 times per outing. I never thought of the strap though when stalking… thats a good idea. I always have to be so careful about not making so much noise. good info that i will adopt for sure.
I went the cheap route and use a 4’ piece of rope too. Instead of tying slip knots, I use a brass hook/latch. Works like a charm and you can set it with one hand. I’m open to suggestions though for an easy way to get the pole out of the muck after you’ve staked off for a while.
As much money as you have in the the boat, tackle and pole you might as well spring for the caddy. It’s save more long term and you will screw up far fewer poles!!!
Good Point JMB gonna get one
