When I installed mine I took the plastic housing off of the base mount before I bolted her to the plate. It took me about 4 months to get everything ready to put her on the boat and in that time the plastic part had already started to yellow. Plus it sits lower on the deck. Haven’t had anything happen yet that makes me think this was a bad idea.
