What’s the easiest way to put a new male BNC connector for a Garmin GPS antenna onto the cable (the end that plugs into the GPS)? The coax is RG58. I bought a Ancor Crimp-type BNC and a crimp tool, but I can’t get the stranded center conductor of the cable to fit into the connector… tinned it, trimmed it… won’t go.
Anyone have and luck with any other method? Radio Shack twist-on connectors maybe?
I still have the factory-mounted connector with some cable attached to it, but I hesitate to splice the coax; folks out in interweb land seem to indicate that’ll cause an impedance bump and decrease the performance… but I’m open to whatever… need to get it done ASAP.

If its stranded, you may have to cut back some of the strands if it won’t fit in the pin.
Where are you at? I have a BNC M for RG58 solder type with me now. I prefer solder over crimp every time. It will last longer in my opinion went done properly. I’m in North Chuck and would be glad to show you how to do it.

I need to do the same thing on my 498. mine will wiggle and lose satts at times.
Where can I/did you find that connector pictured? That’d be money.
I tried trimming down the center connector to like 5 strands (tiny), tinning it and I still couldnt get it into the center pin. This one I’ve got must be made for a solid wire type coax.
