I just upgraded from a Keywest 225cc to a 268cc and I was a little worried about putting in and pulling out at live oak earlier this week. Is there a good rule of thumb on time before / after low tide that you can go by… to be safe? With the 225, I would put in / pull out at least 2 hours on either side of the low tide. With the new boat, I was thinking 3 hours min. At Live Oak is it the left side (facing the ramp) that is safer and does not have the hole?
Also, someone told me that you could put in / pull out at the Dahoo landing at dead low tide and be safe. Is that true?
Thanks, in advance.
I have put in at Dawhoo at dead low with the same boat
Thanks for the comments. I agree, they really need to correct the issue at live oak. I went to the Edisto Beach HOA meeting and they said the state had like 250K set aside to upgrade the ramp, but when they had a public hearing, there was one “loud objector” and they dropped the project. This was only a couple weeks after the person had to be pulled from the creek at that ramp. I plan on writing the Governor (not sure it will help) about it.
At least now I know that Dawhoo is an option when the tides are wrong for Live Oak.
While on the subject of the marina, what is up with the marina now using the fuel dock and , really, the only place to get out of the way of the active ramp for slip rental? The last two times we have gone out of there there have been either large sportfishers or huge sailboats tied up with power attached completely blocking the fuel docking/temporary holding area. It really appears as though the management there wants to make this a totally private marina. Just my observations. Sure aint the same friendly marina it was in the past.
Blueline, My experience with the marina has been just the opposite of yours. Steve, Buddy, Buddy’s son, Capt Huff (assoc pres), and all the guys working there do a great job, especially considering all the traffic they get. Bob Sanders
I rented a boat slip at the marina the week of July 4, and again the week of July 21, and the folks at the marina now do a great job handling all of the customers, and maintain a really pleasant attitude while doing so. It was a pleasure doing business with them! That has not always been the case over the last 20 years or so.
