A couple of guys go fishing and have a good day and get checked by dnr at the landing. They find a couple fish either under or over size. How would that work as far as fines since they don’t know who caught what?
If I had to guess, the owner of the boat would be the default guy, which might not be a good thing since he’d now possibly be in possession of two bag limits and all other violations.
I always make sure whatever I keep is at least an 1/8" longer than the minimum just in case of shrinkage between being caught and getting back to the landing. No fish is worth a ticket.
I understand it all and was just curious. Only go a couple times a year with this guy and guess I’ll just take my own cooler like his coworkers do. Wan to go after sheeps but he hates the new rules. Might just take his boat when he’s not home. After all I havc keys and registration.

I am no LEO but I have a legal background(college). Although, I work on boats( cant stand being in an office). I think it would come down to how the officer wanted to handle it. I think this would go one of two ways:
-all three would be cited (well, since you dont know who caught it you all get a ticket)
-the boat owner gets all citations (as a boat owner you should know the limits and follow them at
all times.your passengers, i can see other wise as they depend on you to obey the law while on the water, at all times)
As stated before, I think someone would down going down.
I’d rather be a free man in my grave than living as a puppet or a slave.
I have a SS fish measuring board with one end tilted up 90 degrees. All of my minimum marks are +1/8 in longer, and all my maximum marks are -1/8 shorter. I heard the story about a guy who had a fish measured by DNR in a tournament and then got stopped on the way home by DNR and got a citation for a short fish ?!? Got to leave room for judgement.

I’m not in LE, but I believe the violation is for POSSESSION of undersized or over the limit # of fish. Both people could get charged for posessing the fish. Similar to a cop finding a bag of weed in somebody’s car. If they both know it’s there, they’re both culpable, regardless of who actually caught it.
Constructive possession. Id ask dnr to be sure on fish. If its dope, in a car and everyone denies ownership then everyone who could access it goes. Someones going for it so whoever owns it, man up. Otherwise everyone on the boat is going to take the hit. Dont risk it and measure them first.
