We’re having a garage sale this Sat. and I’ve got some old hand planes that I inherited when my Dad passed away in '06. I think they belonged to my Grandfather, so they might be 60 yrs. old or older. I’ve decided to sell them since I have no use for them. I don’t have a clue as far as what to ask for them. They vary in size from about 10" to 6" long, 1 1/2" to 2" wide at the blade. (and they are still sharp!, don’t ask how I know:wink:) Any ideas on what they might be worth?
I’ve also go a 10" radial arm saw, with stand, about 15-20 yrs. old, in very good condition. Is it worth $200.00?
Thanks for any help.

Go to woodnet.net, register a name and ask there. Or, if you email me the pics (or give me a link to the pics) I can ask for you on there.
For what it’s worth, you won’t get diddly squat for them at a yard sale. The vast majority of yard sellers aren’t the sort to appreciate good old wood planes. I would attempt to sell the wood planes on somewhere like Ebay, just clean them up good if they have any buildup on them. You should get a better price there.
As for the radial arm saw, same situation. Nowadays, they aren’t nearly as in demand as they once were, because you can get sliding attachments for table saws and you can get miter saws with 12" slides on them. The price will depend on the brand and the overall design.

Don’t clean them up!! Leave them in the condition they are until you get a estimate on what they are worth…In most cases, cleaning old things up decreases the value…

This. If they say Starret, BlueGrass, Cresson and a few others that I can’t think of right now, they may be worth something. Leave that patina.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

What pitviper says is spot on. Most antigues lose value when cleaned up. As for the radial arm saw, it depends on brand and condition. I bought a Craftsman professional series several years ago for $150 (it was 15 years old at the time). I later sold it for $100 when I moved out here. Check ebay prices of similar items and that will give you a ballpark.
When you decide on a price, post it up. Several people on here ,ay be interested. Including me.
